I would like to say I do not let media influence my opinions and outlook on race, gender, sex, or crime, and I usually think i avoid the fear tactics the media portrays but going sitting through class even on the first day open my eyes a little. My girlfriend is a photo major and wanted to come with me so she could take some photos for class her photo 2 class. She wanted to get out of Denton and thought this would be a good opportunity. I asked her about 5 times if she was sure she wanted to come with me. I told her it would be dark by the time we got there and that i didn't want her to get mugged or rapped in a jokingly manner. she persisted to say she wanted to come with so i said okay. by the time we got there it got late and i think i scared her a little. she ended up staying in the lobby of the University Center for 3 hours while i was in class. I guess the media on the news about all the crime in Dallas put a little fear factor in me and I then relayed that to her. I feel kinda of dumb that i let the media do that and implant the fear.
I definitely look forward to coming to class. Although this isn't my major but is part of my degree plan to graduate, I feel like this is going to be one of my favorite classes so far.
